PSG Lining Up Summer Move for Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez

Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing a summer move for Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez as they hope to capitalise on their two-year ban from the Champions League.

The French champions could see Mahrez as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, with the 21-year-old being continually linked with a move to Real Madrid.

According to Calciomercato (via the Daily Mail), PSG are keen on the Algerian as they look to boost their attacking ranks. The 29-year-old has been one of City's best players this season, scoring seven goals and registering eight assists in 23 Premier League games under Pep Guardiola. He is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2023.

Following Man City's ban from European competition for two seasons for breaching UEFA's financial fair play regulations, many of their players have been considering their future at the club. Mahrez appears to be one of those eager to continue playing in the Champions League.

As well as a guarantee of Champions League football, Mahrez might also be keen on the prospect of returning to France, the country in which he was born and built his early football career in. It would also be a great opportunity to add the Ligue 1 title to his trophy collection, having already claimed the Premier League twice.
Since joining Man City from Leicester City in 2018, Mahrez has won the Premier League, one FA Cup and two Carabao Cups in a short, but very successful, period. If a move to PSG materialises, he will be hoping to help the club achieve their ambitions of winning their first Champions League title providing they don't win it this season.

There is currently uncertainty over how the rest of this season and the start of next season will play out due to the coronavirus pandemic causing footballing suspensions all over Europe.
